「折れた野球バットをグリップにしたハンマー」


元野球少年です。
大人になって不意に「折れたバットはどこに行くんだ？」と思ったことがあった。

そして、野球バットを久々に手に取る機会があった。
持った瞬間に「あーこれこれ」と１０数年慣れ親しんだ感覚は今でもはっきり残っていた。
野球に向いている手の大きさや形になってしまっているのだろうか。
野球バットのこの形状を取り扱うことに関しては、野球少年ではなくなった今でも素人とは言い難いのではないだろうか。

今の仕事に目を向けてみると、「とんかち」もそれなりに慣れ親しんだものである。
しかし野球のそれと比べてしまうとまだまだ年数的には未熟である。

では野球バットと「とんかち」のハイブリットは私の手の感覚をより研ぎ澄まし、より卓越した手さばきを手に入れられるのではないか。

そんな仮説を立てて、「baseball ton-kachi」を作った。

野球少年から大工になった方にぜひそれを味わってもらいたい。

"A hammer utilizing a broken bat"


I used to be a baseball kid.
Once grown up, I suddenly came up with the question,

“Where do broken baseball bats go?”

I grabbed a baseball bat for the first time in a long while. I thought, "Ah, this is it."

The feeling I had grown accustomed to during my ten-plus a bit more years of playing remained clear.
Have my hands become the size and shape suited for baseball?
Even though I am no longer a baseball kid, I can hardly be called an amateur when grasping a bat.

Looking at my current work, "ton-kachi" (Japanese for a hammer) is also something I am well familiar with in my work life. Yet, it hasn't come around as long as a baseball bat.

I wondered if a hybrid of a baseball bat and a "ton-kachi" would sharpen my hand senses and enable more excellent handwork.

With this in mind, I created "baseball ton-kachi."

I want the baseball kid-turned-carpenter to experience what I mean.
